Sinkhole Investigationin Florida
The question it answersIs there sinkhole activity here, how serious is it, and what should be done about it?
Sinkhole Work
Before you build, and when the ground moves.
Much of Florida sits on limestone that dissolves over time, opening voids, raveling soils and sinkholes. Geo-Tech screens sites for that risk before construction and investigates it when distress appears, from a single homesite to a roadway or distribution center.
Before construction
A karst survey site analysis on every project: ground penetrating radar screening, confirmation soil borings and a sinkhole potential assessment that feeds foundation, stormwater and layout recommendations.
When a sinkhole appears
Geo-Tech assesses the sinkhole activity and investigates distressed foundations and roadway systems, including forensic evaluation of distressed structures and foundation settlement analysis.
Remediation and monitoring
Remediation design recommendations, deep compaction grout monitoring and follow-up monitoring, so the fix is verified rather than assumed.
Methods
How the ground is read.
Geophysical methods map conditions across the whole site without excavation, and borings confirm what is in the ground at specific points.
Questions
Sinkhole Investigation FAQ.
How does Geo-Tech investigate a sinkhole?
Geo-Tech assesses the sinkhole activity using ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity, cone penetration soundings and soil borings, investigates any distressed foundations or roadway systems, and then provides remediation design recommendations.
Can a site be checked for sinkhole risk before I build?
Yes. Geo-Tech runs a karst survey site analysis on every project, combining ground penetrating radar screening, confirmation soil borings and a sinkhole potential assessment before construction starts.
My foundation is cracking. Is it a sinkhole?
Not always. Cracking can also come from settlement or poor site preparation. Geo-Tech performs forensic evaluations of distressed structures and foundation settlement analysis to find the cause before a repair is chosen.
What happens after a sinkhole is confirmed?
Geo-Tech provides remediation design recommendations, such as grouting, and can monitor deep compaction grouting and the site afterward.
Does Geo-Tech investigate sinkholes under roads?
Yes. Geo-Tech investigates distressed roadway systems as well as building foundations.
Where does Geo-Tech work?
Geo-Tech is headquartered in Ocala and serves all of Florida, plus Georgia and North Carolina, with its own drilling crews, accredited laboratory and inspectors.
